Coaches Education Program - Level 2 Information

With the explosive growth of the sport of lacrosse around the country, the need for knowledgeable, experienced coaches is greater than ever before. US Lacrosse is committed to providing opportunities to develop these important leaders, through online offerings, clinics and  comprehensive certification.

Created with input and assistance from many of the nation's finest coaches, this one-of-a-kind program is designed to increase your knowledge of the game while also teaching you the fine art of coaching.

The coaching education program (CEP) takes a building block approach to training—the material in each level builds on the content in the previous level. The US Lacrosse coaching education committee feels strongly that all lacrosse coaches receive foundational training that reinforces the roots of the game, high levels of sportsmanship, and sold coaching theory.

The coaching education program is also a blended learning experience—some knowledge is gained through convenient, online delivery methods, and other content is delivered at in-person clinics where coaches have the benefit of hands-on instruction and a certified trainer at their disposal.

The CEP Level 2 instruction is designed for  coaches who have completed CEP Level 1 instruction and have some experience coaching lacrosse.  Coaches must have completed similar mode (online/clinic) CEP Level 1 instruction in order to register for a CEP Level 2 course.

The content focuses on age appropriate coaching, safety, sportsmanship.  Basic principles of sequential, seasonal program management, conditioning, nutrition, hydration and psychology are also discussed.  This course will introduce more advanced individual offensive/defensive skills and team concepts.

After completing a CEP Level 2 course or clinic, the coach should be able to:
• Apply a positive coaching philosophy in an age-appropriate manner
• Use higher level communication skills to enhance player performance
• Organize a practice for maximum player and team improvement
• Develop standards of sportsmanship and respect
• Understand basic principles of conditioning, nutrition and mental preparation
• Teach advanced skills and tactics in an age-appropriate manner to experienced players
