Spotsy Lacrosse Coaching Qualifications and Requirements
Spotsy Lacrosse takes coaching qualifications seriously. As a member of the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL), we are required to ensure that coaches on the sidelines have complied with NVYLL and U.S. Lacrosse education, training, and background investigation requirements. This means every head coach must have completed the U.S. Lacrosse Level 1 coaching course, completed the annual Positive Coaching Alliance certification, and passed a U.S. Lacrosse background investigation within the past two years. Additionally, all assistant coaches and other field personnel must pass a U.S. Lacrosse-approved background investigation every two years.
Most of the Spotsy Lacrosse coaches are parents like you. Some played lacrosse in the past (and still play) while others just enjoy the game and coaching youth sports. While prior playing experience and coaching is desired in all of our coaches, it is not essential. As a matter of fact, Erin Quinn, a national college coach of the year winner and the winner of three NCAA Division III National Titles never played lacrosse. However, he studied the game and understood that good personal interaction with players, officials, and other coaches was critical to success.
Spotsy Lacrosse strives to find coaches with a combination of good lacrosse knowledge, the ability to teach good fundamental skills, and the ability to positively relate to young athletes. Our goal as coaches is to build the skills and enthusiasm of our young lacrosse players so they develop a lifelong love of the game.
