Ravens...
Some of you had the opportunity to listen to a brief update from Coach John Haid at our recent Member meeting. For those of you that were not there, Coach Haid works with the SCLC U11 team, President of Stafford Lacrosse, and also is the co-founder of Virginia Lacrosse Company. Please see below for a brief email from Coach Haid about the upcoming Virginia Lacrosse Company Summer opportunities.
Thank you to Virginia Lacrosse Company for providing these summer opportunities to help grow the future of lacrosse area. The Ravens can only benefit from partnerships like these!!
Greetings,
A friendly reminder that Virginia Lacrosse Company is holding its tryouts for 9th annual summer tournament travel teams (U11 through HS) this Sunday at Colonial Forge HS. Please see www.valaxco.com and click on Spec Ops for more info. Team Seals is youth and Team Recon is High School. TIMES HAVE CHANGED FOR U15, so please take a look for we have moved the tryout earlier.
It is of great help if you register by Friday for the tryout so we are organized for your arrival on Sunday. The tryout is FREE!
VA Lax Co will make a donation to the Spec Ops Wounded Warrior Fund on behalf of all the Teams. Our way of giving back to the bravest in our nation.. Also note we do not charge for recruiting assistance for high school players. Last year's team has 20 of 26 players talking with or signed to play at the college level.
Please do not hesitate to call with any questions.
Keep Lax’n,
John Haid

A great THANK YOU to all of the parents that came out to the Parent's meeting on Monday night. There was great representation from all of the Ravens. We truly appreciate you taking time out of your evenings to come out. For those of you that could not make it to the meeting, let me recap briefly what was discussed.
***
Board of Director Positions
There are currently THREE open positions for the SCLC Board of Directors. Please email me as soon as possible if you would like to nominate someone for one of these open positions, or if you yourself are interested in volunteering your time to better the club. While all volunteer positions can be demanding at times, there is no better way to support your child, the community, and the sport of lacrosse than by being in a key leadership position.
Click HERE to see the official description of the open positions. Nominations must be submitted NLT 30 May 2012.

Summer Programs
Mr. John Haid, Virginia Lacrosse Company, spoke about the summer lacrosse programs they are offering for the area children. This is a great organization and a great opportunity to continue playing over the summer. There are also other day camps being offered around the area.
Visit the link titled "Summer LAX 2012" on the left-hand side of the website for more information.

SPIRIT NIGHTS
SCLC is a complete volunteer organization, with one major fundraiser throughout the season. Various Spirit Nights are made available to help raise funds for the club in order to support equipment purchases, field rentals, etc. Please take an evening support SCLC.
Saturday May 12th (THIS WEEKEND!!!) - 12PM - 5PM
Buffalo Wild Wings
Southpoint Shopping Center
Click HERE for the flyer to present to the BWW staff.
Email them to all of your friends/family. The more support, the better.

Helmets
Although lacrosse helmets can be expensive, they are also one of the most important pieces of equipment that your child can have. The Ravens have experienced a few concussions this season, and would like to reinforce safety across all of our teams. One way to do this is to ensure that all players have quality helmets. As Mr. Steve Fredeen pointed out, a child's helmet is only good for approximately 3 seasons. Be careful when purchasing a used helmet as you do not know the type of wear it has received.
Although there are no requirements for what type of helmet your child wears as a Raven, SCLC recommends a Cascade CPX-R or a Cascade Pro-7. There are currently SCLC Ravens decals available from your team managers that fit these helmets well.

NVYLL Playoffs/Tournaments
Plan for the first week of June to be playoff dates for the SCLC Ravens.
Based on how the teams do within the first tournament games, the possibility to advance and play the following weekend is there. Although we know many people travel over the summer, please do your best to have your child at any play-off games scheduled. The Ravens rely on their teammates to represent SCLC to the fullest extent.
***
Summer Tournaments
The U9 Ravens will be attending their first tournament on Saturday/Sunday June 2nd and 3rd in Virginia Beach, VA. This will be a phenomenal experience for these boys, and likely one they will always remember.
***
Jerseys
By now, you should have been in contact with your team manager if you wish to purchase your game worn jersey for $40. If you are not purchasing your jersey, all tops and pinnies need to be turned into your team manager at the end of the season. The game shorts are yours to keep. Wear them proudly and represent the Ravens throughout the off season!

And as always, please
with any questions, comments or concerns!!
Thanks again for all of your support for SCLC! Go Ravens!!!
